Review of Joomla 1.5: Beginner's guide

Probably the most struggling aspect of fresh web designers is developing enough content in order to make adjustments to the site format, before adding the remaining content material and functionality. In this book Tiggeler grabs the reader by your hand and goes back and forth between building content material and creating structure. This book is not just about the concept of making websites, but it's target lies mainly on the practical aspect. At the end of every chapter, Tiggeler asks the reader to act by applying the offered concept into practice, the so called "Time for action" part. Further more there is a part, the "Have a go hero"section, where the reader is much less directed and which it offers further challenges. The content of the book begins with downloading and installing Joomla. In order to use this book to it's full extent, the necessity of a Web hosting is required. Most Webhosts give one-click installation of Joomla !, but require thinking about Web design in a different way compared to static HTML pages. This Joomla book includes some essential sections when building webpages: Search engine optimization, metrics and website security. Tiggeler does a great job by providing the basic principles about these subjects, but provides the reader also more advanced direction, and discusses more technical issues which a developer might experience. The book also includes screenshots which makes it very easy for the reader to follow along. When you get more comfortable with everything Tiggeler has to offer, including the very basics of component and module installation and configuration, reading more of Tiggeler's publication is a must. Nevertheless, what sums this title up best for me is the chapter called: "Web Building Basics: Creating a Site in an Hour". I was suspicious at first, but with Tiggeler's guidance, it is quite possible to build your first basic Joomla Web site in about an hour. If you're looking for a beginner to intermediate book, there aren't many other alternatives available. I have read dozens of these types of books in the past but no book comes near this excellent book. Joomla 1.5 Beginner's Guide is what I recommend to starters with web development.
